Barack Obama Elected President

Posted in politics on November 5th, 2008

Whether you voted Democrat or Republican, we all know that history was made on this night in 2008. Shortly after 8pm Pacific Standard Time, Barack Obama took California, and he was named president. At the age of 47, he is one of the youngest men to hold the office. John F. Kennedy was younger.

Senator Obama will be the 44th President of the United States. Within an hour of McCain’s consession speech, Obama took the stage at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois to give an inspiring speech. Tomorrow, the party moves forward to begin the process of the change in power. Both the Senate and the House of Represenatives appear to also be Democratic led as well.

It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment change has come to America.

Congratulations to our new Presidential Elect, Barack Obama.

Sarah Palin Wants To Do Fey Again

Posted in celebrity, politics, television on October 7th, 2008

In recent weeks, Tina Fey has once again returned to her old stomping grounds at Saturday Night Live. This time, she has taken on the role of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Some might say the resemblance between the actress and the governor is uncanny. Palin has taken the joking jabs at her all in good cheer. She watched the first appearance while in transit to a campaign stop.

Now, after a second performance, Palin would like to head onto television to spoof Tina Fey spoofing her. She has said she took on the role of the actress before as she dressed up as her for Halloween.  No telling when Sarah Palin will make her appearance if it even happens. Some say it could happen on Saturday Night Live or the special Weekend Report series NBC has. What do you think of the politicians poking fun at the ones making fun of them? Good idea or bad?

Gays Want More From Celebrities

Posted in celebrity, politics on October 3rd, 2008

With the election coming up in November, one state is looking to reinstate the ban on gay marriage. Gay marriages became legal in California back in May, and now a law is on the November ballot that will once again make it illegal for gays to marry.

Some high profile gay celebrities have already walked down the aisle including Ellen Degeneres and George Takei. Other celebrities have also stepped in and offered their money and support to fight Proposition 8. The most recent being Brad Pitt, who is currently in New York City for the premiere of Angelina Jolie’s next movie, The Changeling.

However, gay campaigners are now saying celebrities aren’t doing enough. One activist states that now it is the time for the entertainment industry to take the lead.

McCain burns Letterman

Posted in politics, television on September 25th, 2008

A case where politics meets the entertainment world. Senator John McCain announced on Wednesday that he was suspending his presidential campaign to focus on the financial crisis facing the country at the moment. This has raised some eyebrows, and Obama has had his own thoughts on this stepping back by the Republican candidate.

With McCain suspending his campaign, the senator has canceled some of his appearances. One of them being an appearance that was set to take place last night on David Letterman. This caused Letterman to make a few cracks at the senator for not appearing as scheduled.

Thursday morning on the Today Show, one of McCain’s staff spoke out about the cancellation. He said right now McCain’s focus is on the crisis. Letterman said Sarah Palin should take over campaigning for the time being while McCain helps deal with the issues facing our country. Would Letterman have welcomed an appearance last night by Sarah Palin instead? Certainly sounds like it!

Bristol Palin Pregnant

Posted in politics on September 2nd, 2008

News broke yesterday that the teenage daughter of the Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant. Briston Palin is seventeen years old, and she is currently five months pregnant. She plans to keep the baby and marry her boyfriend. This news created a buzz around the convention on Monday, but the focus was elsewhere in the country.

Hurricane Gustav hit the Louisiana coast line on Monday, but the storm didn’t pack as much of a punch as first predicted. The levees held for the most part, and now the area is waiting for the next three storms to hit. The first, Hurricane Hannah, is set to hit the east coast on Friday if it continues on this path.

Gustav Could Delay Republican Turn

Posted in politics on August 31st, 2008

Last week, the Democrats had their turn to share their platform with the country, and this week ahead it is time for the Republican’s to have that same turn. However, a storm is set to hit the country in the form of Gustav. If this storm is bad enough, word has it that the Republican National Convention might be delayed depending on how badly Hurricane Gustav affects the country.

This comes to us via Broadcasting & Cable. There is no word that this is a definite plan yet, but an eye is being focused on the hurricane. The Republican National Convention is set to take place in Minnesota starting September Monday. Earlier this week, John McCain picked Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. On Sunday morning, George Bush and Dick Cheney both announced that they will not be make it to the convention.

At this time, Gustav is quickly heading towards the Gulf Coast, and it will be making landfall near New Orleans Monday morning. This storm could possibly be stronger than Katrina, which hit and devastated New Orleans three years ago. News on this story continues to develop, and by all means keep the Gulf Coast in your thoughts.

Obama Brings In Ratings

Posted in politics on August 30th, 2008

The Democratic National Convention this week in Denver was watched by the country, and perhaps even the world as we are looking ahead to who might be our next president. Now we know that when Barack Obama took the stage, 38 million people tuned in to watch him deliver his speech. This is more than the number that tuned in to watch the Oscars this year, and the opening ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Now the people of the United States are waiting for the other side to have their say as McCain now has picked a running mate in Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin.

Plot To Assassinate Obama Foiled

Posted in politics on August 26th, 2008

All eyes of the country are on Denver this week as the Democratic Convention. Stars are making their way to the city to put their support behind the Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama.  Celebrities in Denver or planning to stop by during the week ahead include Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson.

However, not all is well in Denver. TMZ is reporting that a plot to assassinate the presidential hopeful was stopped. One man was stopped outside of Denver with a car full of guns, and he led the police to the location of two others involved in the plot waiting for him in Denver. All men are in custody, and they are said to be members of a white supremacy group. This is one crazy world we live in today. Hopefully, a close eye and care are given in the days ahead.

Obama Picks A Running Mate

Posted in politics on August 23rd, 2008

Obama Picks A Running MateLate last night or early today, depending on how you see it, presidential candidate Barack Obama finally picked up someone to run with him on the Democratic ticket. He picked Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. from Delaware. Many are now going who?! That is the general consensus. Many were hoping to see Obama pick up Hilary Clinton picked up as his vice presidential candidate.

The few that I have spoken to since this news broke are scratching their hands, and some are even saying Obama has lost their vote. They will now vote for the other side, and if this happens a lot we could see McCain take office, and we would have another four years under Republican rule. If that happens, this country is in trouble. Big trouble! This is a country in crisis, and we need change. Obama could be the force behind that change, but he picked the wrong person to run by his side.

Quayle Doesn’t Want To Dance

Posted in celebrity, politics on August 3rd, 2008

This one amused me this morning. With the presidential election later this year, this name should be familiar to some, even if he has been out of office for quite some time. Dance shows seem to be popular, and Dancing With The Stars will return for its seventh season this fall. Apparently, the series contacted Dan Quayle to strut his stuff on the dance floor for American viewers.

Yes, this one appears to be true. Everyone thought it was a huge rumor and the biggest joke ever, but apparently there is truth here. Quayle has said no, but could you imagine seeing him on the dance floor? The official cast for this next season of Dancing With The Stars will be announced on August 25.
